170 pounds: Carlston Harris vs. Jared Gooden

Round 1: Gooden with his hands low as usual. Body kick and low kick. Hard low kick that Harris can’t quite counter. Trade in the center. Harris punches the arm and unsuccessfully tries to tie up a minute. Right and overhand left hook from Harris, who absorbs another low kick. Gooden holds the jab, eats one back. Low blow exchange. Gooden to the body two minutes later. The heavy blow results in Gooden pawing his nose and Harris stalking him. Gooden’s fast counters. Counter left, eat chipping right. More aggressiveness from Harris. Hard flurry that Gooden absorbs with two minutes to go.

Harris shoots, can’t finish, lands a knee on the exit. They trade lefts. Gooden bursts, cutting right past Harris in return. Some fun back and forth exchanges. Gooden continuing to dig down to the lower right. One more minute. Gooden lands jabs, eats a two-piece counter. Wicked elbow from Harris, the jab comes back to him. Exchange hands in descending seconds. Big elbows by Harris after bullying Gooden at the fence. 10-9 Harris.

Round 2: Early level change from Harris, which puts Gooden on the fence. Trading short punches inside. A minute later. A better level change this time and he throws Gooden to the mat, taking half guard. Short punches from above. Now a few elbows to two minutes. Consider an arm triangle with two minutes to go.

Harris always moves away from half guard. Gooden tries to turn into him and Harris grabs the front lead with a minute to go. Go back to side control, then go up to the level of the bell. 10-9 Harris.

Round 3: Harris shoots, can’t get it, grabs the front lead instead. Looking back, a hook. He spins in a mount for a minute with a potential arm triangle. Gooden pokes his head out, still stuck in the mount eating elbows. Gooden breaks free and gets up, where Harris switches levels again two minutes later. Another successful takedown puts Gooden in his seat. Gooden catches up, only to eat a huge left hook and get taken down again with two minutes to go.

Harris walks away looking for the back. Gooden explodes again, avoiding an anaconda choke, but Harris hangs on again and drags him down with a minute to go. Lateral control for “Mocambique”, landing elbows. Return to half-guard in front of the bell. 10-9 Harris.

Final result: Harris defeated. Gooden by unanimous decision
