
A teaser image of Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse gives a chaotic look at the highly anticipated sequel’s heroes and villain clashing.
Published by Empire Magazine, the film shows a fight in Mumbattan, the home of Pavitar Prabhakar/Spider-Man India, and sees his native web-slinger battle the Spot alongside spider heroes Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy. Spot’s portal-generating abilities are on full display, creating one to redirect a kick from Gwen to Miles. Word bubbles like those seen in the previous one are also visible. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), with Miles emitting a “!?” response after Gwen’s kick while Spider-Man India reacts with an exclamation mark.
What worlds and heroes appear in Across the Spider-Verse?
According to Empire, Mumbai will be one of five distinct worlds seen in the multiverse. “Every world is a rugged place”, Through the Spider-Verse explained co-director Joaquim Dos Santos. “We basically did five movies in one.” Other confirmed realities include the Earth-65 home inspired by Gwen’s watercolor, the futuristic Nueva York from Spider-Man 2099, and New London, where the hard-rocking Spider-Punk resides. The heroes’ final destination is being kept under wraps, but co-writer and producer Phil Lord promises “it’s going hard” and “the visuals will be jaw-dropping.”
While a world remains a mystery, Through the Spider-Verse may draw actor Tom Holland’s iteration of Spider-Man from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “I had heard that part of the delay of [Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse] was to get Tom Holland in this movie, and that one of the dimensions that Miles might end up going to is a live-action dimension with Tom Holland [Spider-Man]”, said industry scooper Jeff Sneider of the film. As for other live-action characters making their way into animation, another report claims that Venom actress Peggy Lu will make a guest appearance in the sequel, reprising her role as convenience store owner Ms. Chen from Venom (2018) and Venom: let there be carnage (2021).
Actors confirmed for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
Actors reprise their roles Into the Spider-Verse include Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker, and Oscar Isaac in Spider-Man 2099. The cast also boasts an impressive collection of newcomers, including Jason Schwartzmann as The Spot, Daniel Kaluuya as Spider-Punk, Issa Rae as Spider-Woman and Karan Soni as Spider-Man India. Trailers and posters for Through the Spider-Verse teasing several other fan-favorite wall-crawlers, like Josh Keaton’s Peter Parker The spectacular Spider-Man, but what role, if any, they might play in the film is unconfirmed. Another unknown is whether they will be voiced by their original voice actors, namely Yuri Lowenthal, who voices Peter Parker in the popular PlayStation video game. Marvel’s Spidermansays he hasn’t been contacted about the film despite his version of Spider-Man appearing.
