My greatest concern for my country is not the fate of Stanley McChrystal…

My greatest concern is that between the now legally permissible conduct of the intelligence agencies within the US and the Supreme Court’s willingness to uphold laws that designate organizations and people as terrorist or terror-supporting, we are threatened by our own government’s conduct unnecessarily.  Every now and then I see something that tells my story better than I can.

As a footnote to this PBS American Masters clip, Pete Seeger still lives in Beacon, NY, in the now updated cabin we see in this video.  He often comes to the next town South, Cold Spring, and, now in his 90s, is a visible friendly presence on Main Street from time to time.  Wonder where all those FBI agents are these days.

  1. Inspirational. As you know this man of quiet courage is my hero. There are a lot of warning signs out there that something as ugly, or even uglier, as the McCarthy era is in the makings. Would that we had someone like Seeger and even Guthrie.
